The country’s largest real estate company DLF has bagged the project for developing Bidadi Knowledge City of Bangalore, spread over 9,178 acres, which will be three times the size of DLF City in Gurgaon.

To be positioned as New Bangalore, the project will entail an investment of over Rs 60,000 crores, which is believed to be the largest ever investment by any private sector company.

Sources in DLF said this project will be developed in a 50:50 joint venture (JV) with Dubai-based firm Limitless Holdings, a sister company of Nakheel and part of the diversified Dubai World group.

They added that California-based architecture and design firm Calthorpe Associates have been appointed to prepare the master plan for the project. This new city would be developed based on the theme of ‘walk to work. The project will be developed at about 30km from Bangalore and 100km from Mysore.

Sources said the Konowledge City will have metro rail connection with Bangalore. They said there are proposals of metro stations and airports inside the township.

For better connectivity, Bangalore Metropolitan Regional Development Authority is planing a series of ring roads.

Bidadi Knowledge City will also have shopping malls, multiplexes and hotels.

India’s growing presence in the global economic arena has received a boost with Bangalore emerging as one of the best places to do business in the world, joining the league of cities like London, Shanghai and Singapore, a latest study says.

Bangalore, known as the world’s back office, is among the 12 cities named in the ‘Best places to do business in the wired world’ list recently compiled by Business 2.0, a magazine published by global media giant CNN-Time Warner group.

Other cities which find a place on the list are — Tokyo, Hong Kong, Barcelona (Spain), Helsinki (Finland), Seoul, Stockholm (Sweden), Tallinn (Estonia) and Tel Aviv (Israel).

“The city is home to Infosys, Google’s Research and Development Centre, and some of the world’s most talented (and inexpensive) software engineers,” the report said while describing Bangalore.

Each place is described along with the availability of free Wi-Fi points, best place to get down to business, best place to celebrate closing the deal and tips on how to get around.

Interestingly, the list also offers the address of saloon to get a good haircut apart from trivia about every city.

On the ‘What you might not know’ section on Bangalore, the report says, “Residents call their city Bengalooru. Like Bombay (now Mumbai), the city was renamed to make it sound more Indian than British.”

About Shanghai, the report says, “Shanghai is an increasingly popular choice for businesses looking to outsource software development. It’s also the Asian-Pacific headquarters for more than 150 foreign companies, including General Electric and General Motors.”

Besides, for London the list reveals that most major US Tech companies have offices in the city and Singapore has a growing entrepreneurial community and boasts of corporate giants such as Dell, IBM, Intel and Sony having a presence in the city.

Bangalore: A month before it is scheduled to hand over power to its coalition partner, the H.D. Kumaraswamy-led coalition government is launching a massive housing project through five mega housing residential layouts spread over 15,000 acres of land around Bangalore.

A meeting of the Bangalore Development Authority board held here on Monday approved the formation of five new layouts, which will envelop about 1.76 lakh house sites of various dimensions.

Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy said that the five layouts would be developed simultaneously and the sites would be ready for allotment in about six months.

“The Government estimates the requirement of house sites in Bangalore at around 2.1 lakh and I am confident that the demand of the people will be met substantially,” Mr. Kumaraswamy told The Hindu.

Does your milk taste like wet cardboard? Blame the bright lights in your market’s dairy section.

“Milk stored within a few inches of fluorescent light in translucent containers usually has a detectable oxidized flavour within two to four hours and a distinct off-flavour within 12 hours,” said Robert Marshall, University of Missouri food science professor.

Fluorescent lights in dairy cases create an oxidized off-flavour in milk that some experts call ‘burnt.’ The closer the milk container is to the light, and the longer it stays there, the greater the chance of an off-flavour, Marshall said in a statement.

While the oxidation has little effect on milk’s nutritional value and is not related to bacteria, fluorescent light does inactivate riboflavin (vitamin B2) and ascorbic acid (vitamin C). Whole milk suffers the least because it has a high level of fat which blocks out the damaging wavelengths.

Milk in clear glass containers goes off-flavour quicker than milk in translucent plastic jugs, and opaque paper board cartons deter the problem altogether.

So when you buy milk, reach to the back of the dairy section.
“Get it from the dark, definitely don’t get the front row”

So last week I spent my whole time in Mumbai relishing on the Maharastrian food and cuisine. FYI- I love traveling and that’s because I am a gourmet and enjoy various cuisines especially Indian Vegetarian dishes and hence I travel a lot to fish good food.

Though I very much enjoyed the food out there I did miss my south Indian rasam and Rice. This was also the case when I was in America and I just wanted to come back here.

So people I would be posting some good food guides to include hotel recommendations, recipes etc to that may suit your taste buds. Though I may not be considered an expert I do love cooking and my preparations have been applauded and devoured by my friends and family with great interest.
